The University of Kentucky One Health team and the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment celebrated One Health Day 2024 on November 1, 2024, with the inaugural One Health Symposium.
The event brought together members of the university community, along with local and state stakeholders, for a morning session featuring talks by nine speakers. Topics ranged from One Health strategies for detecting pre-pandemic zoonotic respiratory virus threats, to creating safer, healthier communities through collective action, antimicrobial resistance, diet and virus interaction, emerging infectious diseases, the role of cockroaches in public health, and wildlife. Following the talks, attendees participated in student and faculty poster sessions and engaged in afternoon roundtable discussions on One Health education, research and extension. The symposium and the UK One Health team are supported by The Gatton Foundation Grand Challenge and the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment.
