Mission, Vision & Goals

Mission

The mission of University of Kentucky One Health (UKOH) is to conduct multidisciplinary One Health research for the purpose of protecting the health and welfare of people, animals and the environment. It will promote multidisciplinary research, instruction and extension for the purpose of protecting the health of people, animals and the environment through collaborative efforts at UK, in state government and beyond. We must recognize the importance of the interconnectedness and linkage of all life forms.

Vision

UKOH will provide significant contributions to the health and welfare of humans, animals and the environment through:

  • Identifying and solving health threats to humans, animals and the environment through multidisciplinary collaborations
  • Conducting multidisciplinary One Health research for the health and welfare of humans, animals and the environment in areas such as zoonosis, antimicrobial resistance, climate change and long-term effects of current chemical treatment of companion animals to develop safer natural alternatives
  • Educating students, healthcare professionals and the community in all aspects of One Health for a healthier future
  • Developing a strong One Health extension program to provide publications and training and develop resources and tools for the implementation of beneficial research-based strategies through extension networks

Goals

Our goals are to:

  • Connect faculty, staff, extension agents and trainees in various colleges in UK and state agencies
  • Increase awareness of One Health
  • Identify and solve health threats to humans, animals and the environment through multidisciplinary collaborations

Students take water samples with Biosystems and Ag Engineering professor Carmen Agouridis.

Free range chickens live at 4-H camp.
